Rwandair adds CRJs, looks for additional aircraft, routes
Rwandair has purchased two CRJ-200s previously operated by Lufthansa and taken delivery of the first aircraft, with the second one due for delivery before year’s end. The airline is also in talks with airplane manufacturers for additional aircraft.
With the acquisition of new aircrafts, Rwandair will increase the number of destinations to include Tanzania, where it will be flying to Dar el Salam and Arusha, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where it will begin with flights to Goma and later Lubumbashi and eventually Kinshasa.
Rwandair to place code on Virgin Atlantic, Brussels Airlines flights
Rwandair will reportedly place its code on Virgin Atlantic’s flights between Nairobi, Kenya and London Heathrow allowing it to sell tickets between Kigali and London.
The airline has signed a similar agreement with Brussels Airlines allowing it to sell tickets on the latter’s service to Brussels, Belgium.
RwandAir looking at Bombardier aircraft
RwandAir is reportedly in talks for the lease of a 50-seat Bombardier aircraft configured with business and economy class.
Rwandair receives B735
Rwandair has received a B735 on lease from Air Namibia on an ACMI basis. The aircraft will be used to serve Johannesburg from Kigali.
Rwandair Express leases aircraft from Air Malawi
Rwandair Express has leased Air Malawi’s B735 for a one year period. The aircraft, which will be operated by Air Malawi crew, will serve Kenya and South Africa from Rwandair’s base in Kigali.
South African to codeshare with EgyptAir, Rwandair Express
South African Airways inked separate deals with EgyptAir and Rwandair Express to codeshare on flights operated by each airline from their respective bases of Cairo and Kigali.
Rwandair Express leases a Dash 8-200
Rwandair Express has wet-leased a Dash-8-200 from Ethiopia-based Midroc Corporation for use on flights to Entebbe, Uganda; Kilimanjaro, Tanzania; and Bujumbura, Burundi. The aircraft, which will complement the airline’s sole MD-82, will soon be replaced by an Embraer 120, and the MD-82 replaced with a B733. These forthcoming changes would reduce fuel costs and be more in line with the airline’s capacity requirements.
