North American to drop Accra, Lagos

North American Airlines will discontinue service to Accra, Ghana and Lagos, Nigeria on May 20 citing fuel prices. The airline currently serves Accra once per week, and Lagos 3x per week.

North American to serve Lagos from Baltimore

North American Airlines announced earlier this month that it intends to start services between Baltimore MD in the United States and Lagos, Nigeria. The flights, operated three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, will begin on September 7 with a stop at New York JFK.

North American and Virgin Nigeria sign agreement

North American and Virgin Nigeria have signed an agreement to cooperate on flights between the US and Africa. The first phase will see the airlines implementing an interline agreement whereby each will sell tickets on the other’s network. North American will also support Virgin Nigeria’s application to serve New York, where the latter would amend its application to serve the route using wet-leased aircraft. Once approval is granted, both airlines would codeshare on each other’s flights.

North American Airlines to serve Nigeria

Nigeria’s aviation ministry has announced that North American Airlines will commence a 3x per week service between New York and Lagos effective May 2006, and will form a partnership with local airline, Bellview Airlines. The exact start date nor schedule have not been announced as of yet.

North American to increase New York - Accra service

North American Airlines will increase its existing frequency between New York JFK and Accra, Ghana from the current weekly service to twice per week from mid-June to the end of October. Flights will be operated on Tuesdays and Thursdays using B763 aircraft.

North American applies for Baltimore - Banjul - Accra service

North American Airlines, the only US-based airline that currently offers service to Africa, has submitted an application to the US Department of Transportation to initiate service between Baltimore, Maryland and Accra, Ghana via Banjul, Gambia. Under the proposal, the airline wishes to start services on June 3 using a B763 configured for 12 business and 258 economy class seats.

North American Airlines currently flies nonstop between New York JFK and Accra, Ghana once per week.

North American Airlines to increase frequency to Accra

North American Airlines, following the success of its weekly flight to Accra from New York JFK, is set to increase its frequency to 4x per week. As of December 16, NA will serve ACC 4x per week.

Edit: it appears that these additional flights will only take place during the peak holiday travel season, and NA will revert back to its weekly service.

North American Airlines to start serving Accra from New York

North American Airlines is moving to fill the void between Accra, Ghana and New York City with the launch of weekly service between the two cities utilizing a B763. Flights will commence on July 1, operated nonstop both ways, leaving JFK on Fridays and returning on Sundays.

It is to be recalled that Continental Airlines had also applied to serve Accra from Newark airport in New Jersey, USA. However, no start times have been announced.
