Kulula.com and 1time interested in East African destinations
Kulula.com and 1time, both South Africa based low cost airlines, have shown interest in opening up routes to the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. However, these will be subject to availability of frequencies in the bilateral agreement between the relevant countries.
Kulula.com to inaugurate services from Lanseria
Kulula.com has announced that it will begin services between Lanseria and Cape Town begining in March, while maintaining flights out of Johannesburg to Cape Town. Lanseria Airport is situated close to Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, giving residents from Sandton, Randburg, Fourways, Pretoria, Midrand and Krugersdorp a less congested alternative to Johannesburg airport in the south, while also allowing the airline to operate from a less expensive airport. The new route will initially be operated with one flight per day.
Kulula.com pulling out of East London
Kulula.com has announced that it will be pulling the Johannesburg - East London route effective the end of this month, citing low demand. The airline said it would deploye its aircraft in other routes that are fare more successful than this city pair.
1Time, another low fare airline in South Africa, will take on passengers originally booked on Kulula after the interruption of the latter’s services, with no additional cost to the passengers.
Kulula takes low fares beyond borders
Kulula.com’s low fares are crossing the border, with the low fare airline now selling tickets from Johannesburg, South Africa to Windhoek, Namibia and Harare, Zimbabwe. The fares are available for sale on select flights operated by parent company Comair/BA.
Kulula.com to acquire more aircraft
Kulula.com, South Africa’s low fare airline, is to acquire three B734s to supplement its existing fleet of nine aircraft. The aircraft are expected to join the fleet before the year’s end.
