EgyptAir will commence service between Cairo, Egypt and Malta on July 3 through its subsidiary EgyptAir Express. Flights will operate 2x per week on Thursdays and Sundays using E170 aircraft.

EgyptAir to increase service to India

EgyptAir reportedly intends to increase service to India by the end of 2008 with daily flights to Mumbai, as well as three weekly flights to Delhi and Bangalore.

EgyptAir has signed a deal with Airbus to purchase five A330-200 widebody aircraft, with an option for an additional three.

bmi to cooperate with Egyptair, drop Alexandria

bmi announced today that it will cooperate with EgyptAir on its service between London Heathrow and Cairo.

“It is also extremely pleasing that our service to Cairo will be operated in cooperation with EgyptAir. This will enable each of us to benefit from our strengths in our respective home markets to promote and sell seats on each others’ services.”

The airline also announced that it will cease operations to Alexandria, Egypt at the commencement of its Winter schedule in favour of a codeshare services with EgyptAir via Cairo.

EgyptAir to add Sharm El Sheikh to Amman

EgyptAir will add new services between Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and Amman, Jordan at the beginning of October. No schedule details have been announced.

EgyptAir and Lufthansa to codeshare

EgyptAir and Lufthansa have reportedly signed an agreement to codeshare on each other’s flights between Cairo and Frankfurt, Cairo and Munich, and Alexandria and Frankfurt. The agreement will take effect next winter.

EgyptAir takes delivery of E170

EgyptAir took delivery of its first Embraer E170 today for operation with its newly created subsidiary, EgyptAir Express. The airline has another 5 on order, plus 6 options.

EgyptAir to resume Sharm El Sheikh - Dubai service

EgyptAir will resume service on the Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt to Dubai route on June 14 with a weekly flight operated on Thursdays using A320 aircraft.

Highlights of EgyptAir’s upcoming summer schedule

The following schedule changes are noted out of Cairo for the upcoming summer schedule at EgyptAir:
- Abu Dhabi will see one flight added to the existing daily service
- Algiers will see an increase of service to 4x per week from the current two
- Alleppo will see an increase from 2x to 3x per week- Budapest will be served 3x per week, up from the current two
- Amman will see an increase form the current 10 flights to 12x per week
- Casablanca will see an increase of service to 4x per week from the current two
- Dubai will see an increase from 9x to 10x per week
- Geneva will be served 4x per week, up from the current three
- Kuwait will see an increase from 9x per week to double daily service
- Johannesburg will see an increase of service to 5x per week, with no service on Mondays and Wednesdays
- Madinah will see an increase from 2x per week to 6x per week
- Munich will be served daily, up from the current 4x per week frequency
- Nairobi will see an increase of service to 5x per week, with no service on Wednesdays and Fridays
- Riyadh will see an increase from 9x per week to double daily service
- Tripoli will be served with 9 flights per week, up from the current daily services

South African to codeshare with EgyptAir, Rwandair Express

South African Airways inked separate deals with EgyptAir and Rwandair Express to codeshare on flights operated by each airline from their respective bases of Cairo and Kigali.

EgyptAir exercises options for B738s

Boeing announced today that EgyptAir has exercised its options for six additional B738 aircraft for delivery in 2009.

EgyptAir orders six Embraer aircraft

EgyptAir Holdings has placed an order for six Embraer E170 jets for use by its newly created EgyptAir Express subsidiary. The aircraft will be configured in a single class accomodating 76 passengers with leather seats.

Resumption of Beirut services to/from African cities

Following the end of hostilities in Lebanon, air links between its capital city Beirut and African cities are being reopened as follows:
- Cairo, Egypt: EgyptAir will resume services on Friday September 8 with a 4x per week frequency with flights operated on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Middle East Airlines will operate daily few flights per week until the resumption of daily services on September 15
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Ethiopian Airlines will resume services on September 12 with a 2x per week frequency. Flights will be operated out of Addis on Mondays and Wednesdays
- Casablanca, Morocco: Royal Air Maroc will resume services on September 10 with a 2x per week frequency. Flights will be operated out of Casablanca on Sundays and Thursdays.
- Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Lagos, Nigeria; Kano, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana: Middle East Airlines will resume services to these cities as of September 8, with frequencies eventually becoming 3x per week to Abidjan, Lagos and Accra; and Kano receiving a single weekly flight.

Highlights of EgyptAir’s upcoming winter schedule

EgyptAir’s upcoming winter schedule, set to take effect at the end of October, will see the following changes:
- Flights to Nairobi, Kenya will see a new weekly flight added to the current 3x per week schedule. The new flight will be operated on Saturdays
- Johannesburg, South Africa will get a fourth flight per week to be operated on Saturdays
- Lagos, Nigeria will get a fifth flight on Saturdays to be operated per the Tuesday schedule
- Accra, Ghana will get a third flight to be operated on Saturdays
- Amsterdam, Netherlands will get a third flight per week to be operated on Wednesdays
- Bahrain will see a decrease in frequency with the Monday frequency being cancelled and flights only operated on Wednesdays and Fridays
- Kuwait will see a decrease in service from the current 14x per week (twice per day) to 9x per week, with Wednesdays and Fridays seeing two flights per day
- Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will see a decrease in service from the current 10x per week to 9x per week, with the second daily flight on Thursdsays being removed from the schedule
- Osaka, Japan will see an increase in flights from the current 2x per week to three, with a new flight operated on Wednesdays
- Berlin, Germany will see doubled service with a second weekly flight added on Tuesdays, to be operated along with Saturdays
- Dusseldorf, Germany will see doubled service with a second weekly flight added on Fridays, to be operated along with Saturdays
- Madrid, Spain will see a fifth weekly flight added on Saturdays
- Munich, Germany will see four flights operated per week, an increase from the currently 1x per week frequency. Flights will be operated on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
- Sharjah, UAE will see a decrease in service from the current 5x per week to 3x per week. Flights will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays

EgyptAir to increase Heathrow, Algiers service

EgyptAir will increase services to London Heathrow and Algiers as of the start of its winter schedule with London receiving a two-flight increase per week on Mondays and Fridays for a total of ten, while Algiers will receive a third flight to be operated on Sundays. The new flights schedules are as follows:

EgyptAir will start serving the holy city of Medina, Saudi Arabia effective June 14. Flights will be operated 2x per week on Wednesdays and Thursdays using A320 aircraft.

20% of Egyptair to be sold off

The government of Egypt has indicated that it is conducting a study to determine the sale of the national carrier’s shares to the public. While no timeframe has been given, the remaining 80% will be held by the government.

EgyptAir to increase frequencies to New York , London Heathrow and Johannesburg

EgyptAir is set to increase frequencies between Cairo and New York JFK to 6x per week as of the begining of its summer schedule. Flights will be operated daily except on Mondays with the B772.

Additionally, service to London’s Heathrow airport will increase by one weekly flight operated on Wednesdays, bringing the total to 8x per week. The new flight will have the following schedule:

Finally, services to Johannesburg, South Africa will be increased to 3x per week from the existing two flights. The new flight will maintain the existing schedule, operated with an A332.

EgyptAir considering Juba

EgyptAir is reportedly considering service to Juba, the captital of southern Sudan.

EgyptAir and Tunis Air to launch Arabesk

EgyptAir and Tunis Air are said to have reached an agreement with the Arab Air Carriers Organisation to launch a new airline alliance dubbed Arabesk, which will initially be composed of eight arab airlines from Africa and the Middle East. The alliance is set to be launched in mid-December.

EgyptAir to resume flights to Beijing

EgyptAir is to resume flights to the Chinese capital from Cairo with 4x per week service on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays effective October 30. Flights will be operated using a B772 with a stop in Bangkok.
