Delta puts Nairobi off
Delta Airlines has put off its launch of services between New York and Nairobi, Kenya until December citing poor market conditions.
New African destinations for Delta Airlines
According to posted schedules, Atlanta-based Delta Airlines will begin services to the following African cities starting in mid-2008:
- New York JFK to Nairobi, Kenya via Dakar, Senegal; 4x per week
- New York JFK to Lagos, Nigeria; daily
- New York JFK to Cairo, Egypt; 5x per week
Delta Airlines to go daily to Accra
According to posted schedules, Delta Airlines will increase its frequency to Accra, Ghana from the current 4x per week to daily in December to meet demand. The airline will then scale back to 5x per week in February.
Delta Airlines to serve Lagos, Nigeria
Delta announced today its intentions to serve Lagos, Nigeria, from its base in Atlanta GA. Flights will be operated daily effective December 3 using B767s, pending government approvals.

Delta Airlines to serve Accra from New York
Delta Airlines, which is set to venture into Africa for the first time this year with the introduction of services to Dakar and Johannesburg, has announced its intention to start services between New York and Accra, Ghana effective December 11. Flights will be operated nonstop 4x per week using 214-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

Delta receives approval from DOT to serve Dakar, Johannesburg
On February 27, the US Department of Transportation gave Atlanta-based Delta Airlines the green light to start services to Dakar, Sénégal and Johannesburg, South Africa effective December 4. This approval allocates 7 weekly frequencies to Delta out of 21 that are available to US carriers wishing to serve South Africa.
Presently, South African Airways is the only airline linking the US to South Africa and Sénégal.
Delta Airlines announces intentions to serve Dakar, Johannesburg
Delta Airlines announced today that it has filed its application with the US Department of Transportations to begin service between its hub Atlanta, GA and the African cities of Dakar, Senegal and Johannesburg, South Africa. Under the particulars of the application, Delta has requested for 7 weekly frequencies between the US and South Africa to operate the Atlanta-Dakar-Johannesburg route using B772 aircraft configured in 50 Business and 218 Economy class seats. Additionally, it has requested that it be authorized to carry passengers between any of the three points of the route on the service would begin on or about December 4.
